About The Author

William Lentini (A.K.A. Papa) is an “accidental” author.  A former Marine, Police Chief, City Councilman and Mayor, he had no intentions of becoming a writer.  He was happily spending his retirement coaching elementary and middle school boys and girls basketball.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  Often he would be asked to tell them stories that he had made up for their parents as well as new ones that he frequently made-up on the spot.

Soon after his retirement he was faced with a potentially terminal disease requiring a liver transplant.  Before surgery, his daughter asked him if he could write down some of the stories he that had been telling her and his grandchildren for years.  She knew that this would take some time, and time was what they needed. With only days, perhaps hours left, an anonymous donor gave the him a new lease on life. So the story teller became a writer and soon discovered that writing was much more difficult than telling the stories.  With the help and encouragement of other writers he met attending seminars hosted by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators as well as family and friends, he has produced an impressive body of work, especially for a new author. William has written two children’s picture books, two middle readers, two young adult books and a number of short stories.

Proceeds from these books are donated to both early childhood education and children’s medical research.
